The application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques
to a broad range of activities to meet the requirements of the
particular project. Project management knowledge and practices
are best described in terms of their component processes. These
processes can be placed into five process groups (initiating,
planning, executing, controlling and closing) and nine knowledge
areas (project integration management, project scope management,
project time management, project cost management, project quality
management, project human resource management, project communications
management, project risk management and project procurement
management).
Both a process and set of tools and techniques concerned with
defining the project's goal, planning all the work to reach
the goal, leading the project and support teams, monitoring
progress, and seeing to it that the project is completed in
a satisfactory way.
A set of well-defined methods and techniques for managing a
team of people to accomplish a series of work tasks within a
well-defined schedule and budget. The techniques may include
work breakdown structure, workflow, earned value management
(EVM), total quality management (TQM), statistical process control
(SPC), quality function deployment (QFD), design of experiments,
concurrent engineering, Six Sigma etc. Tools include flowcharts,
PERT charts, GANTT charts (eg Microsoft Project), control charts,
cause-and-effect (tree or wishbone) diagrams, Pareto diagrams,
etc. (Note that the balanced scorecard is a strategic management,
not a project management technique).
(Gestion de projet) - Project management is the systematic planning,
organizing and controlling of allocated resources to accomplish
project cost, time and performance objectives. Project management
is normally reserved for focused, non-repetitive, time-limited
activities with some degree of risk and that are beyond the
usual scope of program (operational) activities for which the
organization is responsible.
